For those who read my comment in the Quick Shooter forum I mentioned my camera froze and I couldn't take any photos, all controls, buttons did not work. I have now solved the problem and it might help others, if you are working in the dark (literally and figuratively) and using a remote release cable. On my cable the button actually can slide upwards (shows I haven't used it in a long time, or that much), and then down actually does the focusing - I am in live view for this - so push it and it will focus, then I slide it up and push it again to take the actual pic. In the dark, and fumbling around with a torch stuck in my mouth, I hadn't slid the button back down, so it kept the lens open, taking a pic all the time. I removed the cable to walk home and tried the camera this morning for the examples in the Flowers forum, and it worked fine. Put the cable back in and had the same problem, lens open (unknown to me) and all buttons frozen. Then I noticed the button was still in the up or "take" mode, so slid it down and everything ok.

Thanks for sharing. Its information like this that we probably all need even if its just as a memory jog.

I had the same issue with my cable release. I find it easy when I go out doing after dark photos to grab one of those head lights/torches. Strange as it may seem I find it is better if I wear it around my nec so that the light is lower, where the camera is. It may look stupid like some 70s fashion jewellery but your in the dark, so who cares. Although I did get some strange looks in Sydney at Vivid.
I also pre set the camera to one of the function settings. U1 or U2 on the Nikon. Do not know about other brands. On Nikon there is a function dial with M,A,S,P,Auto,Scene, U1, U2 on it. Scene is the pre selected factory scene settings. The U setting are ones where you make your specialist settings and they are stored on that function. That way I know the ISO, speed and app are all set as they are supposed to be. I am sure full frame Nikons and other brands have the same function settings.
It is a pain when you have to try to find and make settings in the dark even with a torch. I am always forgetting to reset a camera after one shoot. This way, when I stuff up, I just turn the function dial to U1 or U2 or alternate between them.
