OK, Mems has inspired an idea for this forum. ( Her three photos in two weeks, the snow and ice and the tea challenge ideas).
My idea is that the Edit This page is changed to have three three types of challenges.
1. If you find a new digital photography technique (and it doesn't need to be limited to an editing technique because editing will always be part of whatever we do anyway) you share the technique details with the rest of the group and let people have a crack at it. No winner. You just post your photo attempts to share with the others. For example, night photography. there is a lot of stuff on the internet that I like to try. It would be nice to share photos and thoughts about these things when we try something new. It may also inspire some others to have a go at something they may not feel confident about attempting on their own
2. If you find an editing technique then you post the details in a thread to share with the rest of us. People who attempt the challenge have to post pre and post photo to show everyone what you have done.
3. You can post a photo that you cannot make pop, and we have all taken those "it seemed like a good idea at the time" photos, then you post it in a new thread and let the rest of us have a crack at it.
Whenever you post it will be appreciated, but not mandatory, to write a few notes about what you did.
No pressure. No winner. No monthly or fortnightly competition. If you have a new technique or a new photo you simply start a new thread. Anyone who wants to give it a go can. Some of us, like me, will have a go at as many edits and ideas that people can post, while others may just pick and choose.
With only a few of us I do not think the current forum is terribly inspiring, and yet some of the work in here just amazes me. I really love editing and I think this will be a great way to help everyone create better photographs. It may take us beyond crop, contrast and filter. Personally I will probably post every couple of weeks and it would be good if others did the same. That's it. Long winded as usual but I thought I may as well run it up the flagpole. What do others think?
